Poem for dVerse ~ Poet’s Pub : Prompt “Lookin’ Up
https://dversepoets.com

Lillian was our host tonight and provided a very interesting prompt to consider. That of space, and more specifically, the imagination that might be stirred through the eyes and images of NASA’s Hubble telescope.

My crazy imagination led me through a galaxy of light and remarkable beauty, yet actually contained within the hearts of two in love. Enjoy!

GALAXY

Be still sweet love, my heart be thine,
yet in this breaking moment trips,
for here suspended ‘midst the stars
are hidden dreams in furrowed rifts.

With deeper reach than echoes ring
from angel’s tenor’d voices,
does span the depth of life unknown,
filled rich, imagination’s choices.

O dream, I drift immortal space
without the truth of reason,
stir deep within each molecule,
hanging science, caught for treason.

‘Til silence, dear, poised to hark
no ear beyond this beating heart,
cast drifting in the whispered waves
of dust in us, in every part.

Exalted swords of light be thine,
my love be drawn in fevered chase,
transcending past love’s sparkled sun,
left golden on her face.

And as the moment’s ether lags
to bend one second back to home,
our temporal kisses, softly hushed,
leave hints to where our hearts may roam.

Summer Shade

Waste not this rapturous seed content to revel in the summer sun,
but to the cooling grass beneath, beside cool water’s run.
Embrace in arms’ lock, tangled hair, breathe a kiss of sweet love made,
enrapt in velvet green beneath strong arms of kind elm’s shade.

Stem this furrowed brow between the lapping waves upon the rill.
Soothe this anxious heat content, in summer’s dewy shadow fill.
Dress this long enamored heart a moment’s rest in whispered rift
that ebbs between our dreaming eyes, content in love’s sweet gift.

Hold this longing’s cover high, revealing only summer’s musk,
that by this cooling season’s shade we’ll linger long till dusk.

Adieu

“Farewell”, the garden gate did echo,
“Adieu”, the song upon her lips,
Yet strummed in burdened sorrow,
Steeped in time no future sips.
“So long”, I echoed back in hoping
That she’d at least glance back a sigh,
“Love?” in whispers softly coping,
This empty hope so full, “Goodbye”.

Yellowed Hall of White

Throughout the yellowed tarnished white,
the past reflects an echoed call,
where once a single pose she struck,
now only whispers through the hall…
filtered in the ochre dreams of golden dust suspended there,
imagination’s hopeful hints stir within her haunting hair…
eternal moments hold him still,
yearning for her love, long lost,
silent, dust of eons drift,
recounting dear the painful cost,
repeated in the souls who wander,
seeking peace in those they love,
stolen from the stage in anguish,
carried by an ageless dove,
who sees them passing tireless,
who knows the breaking of their hearts,
who dares embrace their truth, their passion,
stretched across the dying parts,
of life, of hope, of endless tides,
of missed encounter’s temperance,
of holding truth’s betrayal,
within an ageless penitence.

Lengthened shadows folding gold to greys of dissolution,
he turns away in sadness’ stain, one tear, one sigh, no resolution.

Within a yellowed hall in white,
two souls in echoed time,
long for life that ne’er was theirs,
repeating waves, recurring rhyme…

To Live Again

This silence only threatened by the straining of my heart, beating, as I wait and wonder. I feel the pressure in my veins, thickened, stained in ancient blood, trying to save me, hoping to quit, forced to move on by only what is left of my physical existence… my beating heart.

Reflecting through the pages, turning each so slowly as if I’ve never known their faces, drawing every image in. A mustiness wafts from the turning, held captive by the dog-eared corners of years long gone. I see my entire life move before me, one sacred image at a time… A whisper culls a quiet question in my mind, “What have I done?” Only to be followed by, “What remains undone?”

History hints at moments hushed, the scent of life, a lover’s blush, then draws a quiet candlelight to show the truths in such. I smile, knowing life’s been good, granted peace as much.

But what of purpose left undone, unshared wisdom, songs unsung? What of steps that fear had stayed when dreams could have been won? Gestalt it seems has made its play, regret has laid its run.

Return again! I must return! This desperation tides my soul, but what of life yet drawn to be, how might I know my role?

Perhaps I come on eagle’s wing, above the alpine valleys. Sing!
Define this life in higher call, perspectives’ sweep to see it all.
Perhaps I come as mountain bear, to dig beneath and find what’s there,
noble in a giant’s strength, yet humbly seeking truth at length.
Perhaps as wolf I come to be, one for the pack, yet one for me
with solitude a living grace, histories ink upon my face.

Oh, but no, I cannot face a life wherein I’d let you slip away.
If must becomes an operand, then for your love I’ll bait that day.
For you, my love, for you, I’d only come to live again if I could be with you.

A Winter’s Kiss

Stand still amidst the frozen hush,
suspended twixt each crystal’s blush,
surrendered in mid-winter’s snow.
Starve your senses in the bold
retreat of hearth’s sweet warmth, left cold,
reducing now to all you know.

Iron bare, the season’s scent,
riding on a whisper’s hint,
each frozen note in languid air.
Blushing cheeks of summer rose,
stem the midnight’s soft repose,
hints of jasmine in your hair.

Within your deepest eyes, a smile,
transfixed, transposed in time, the while,
about you snowflakes swarm.
All angels draw their gaze on you,
our eyes, your eyes, here frozen, two,
yet still I find your lips are warm.

Ah! Winter’s night, within the storm,
impassioned hearts removed, reborn,
upon the white and virgin snow,
alive this moment, as lovers, know,
this moment, hallowed, sacred.

Amber Dawn

Amber dawn, ‘neath blushing skies,
quells the azure’s limpid eyes
from dewy tears of morn
that cling in hush and silenced breath
beyond the long cold arm of death
that’s stilled in stone when days are born.

Here upon this Scottish hill
o’er grassy lea and whispered rill
the sea in silence kisses
rocky shores where lovers leapt,
shipwrecked crews whose secrets’ kept
within their love, their misses.

I in humble witness here
mend in hope the simple fears
that balance dawn and death,
by simply casting prayers out
in hopes such dreams may come about
to grant sweet love its breath.

That crescent moons in morning skies
wipe clear the tears from lovers’ eyes,
stay the blush to truth,
that closely held to beating breast
will grant eternal peace and rest
with memories’ lain in threads of youth.

This amber dawn, these blushing skies,
draw a tear unto my eyes
and prayer from my lips,
that as I rise to find my day,
blessed in love I’ll sweetly stay,
leave just my dreams with sunken ships,
for here the day is born.
