New Beginning

sylvia-chan-new-beginning

Enrapt, her burgeoned soul arose,
born in diamond’s white draped hues,
birthed of summer’s countenance rent,
shadows hidden, whispered clues.
Love’s long fire adrift in ash,
cooling, mending, flames of heart,
bathing amber locks of hair,
free in hope of what may start…
… and what may come anew.

Subtle scent of daffodil,
carried on an autumn’s musk,
played for spring on winter’s wing
in promise and in trust.
Honesty entreats her,
no fever shall deny her dream,
a softened hush enfolds her,
angels grant and so redeem…
… this prayer, this hope, this due…

Prompt from dVerse Poetics.
Michelle, “Mish”, our host tonight, asked us to consider new beginnings, as we stand here at the opening of the New Year. With that, Mish provided some beautiful paintings, kindly shared by their artists, as inspiration.
This beautiful piece by Sylvia Chan, also entitled “New Beginning” captured me.

  1. Ooh, I like this:

“no fever shall deny her dream,
    a softened hush enfolds her”

  2. Gorgeous! Of course the painting with globs of thick oil paint in strategic places, but your poem of the burgeoning soul takes my breath away! Everyone deserves a chance to dream and have them come true, the searching of the soul for its own meaning.

  3. I love how you have weaved the seasons in here… the daffodils and autumns musk…and the winter’s wing… Perfect to the picture.

  4. such a profusion of delightful words, like the painting…specially love “burgeoned soul,”….

  5. This is absolutely beautiful, when I first saw this artwork I did think she was emerging from a flower. A daffodil is a wonderful choice as it is a flower of spring and sign of rebirth. I was thinking sunflower and light.

  6. Opening lines blew me away Jay ~ A beautiful and colorful tribute to the artist work~

  7. Scott

    Thank you Jay….

  8. The seasons, the flowers, all speak of renewal, a well woven image of what we see on canvas

  9. Gorgeous, sensuous….as is the painting! Especially loved
    “Subtle scent of daffodil,
    carried on an autumn’s musk,
played for spring on winter’s wing
    in promise and in trust.”
The combination of daffodil and musk…she is indeed an interesting woman!

  10. Stunning work. The painting was one of my favourites and I was so excited to see the interpretations that evolved. Many lines to admire here, but I really like “no fever shall deny her dream”. It really spoke to me. Thanks so much for joining in and sharing this.

  11. That first line just grabs the reader right in with rapt attention and intrigue 🙂

  12. “no fever shall deny her dream,
    a softened hush enfolds her,
    angels grant and so redeem…
… this prayer, this hope, this due…”

    ~this! Beautifully written, Jay.
