The Parting

A single star on edge of night grants a tender blush to snow
that flits above a granite spire,
caught in dance ‘neath full moon’s fire,
enrapt by starlight’s dance and flow.

A tender love for deepest winter spawns a ray of fire light
that graces full the midnight sky
in brilliant arcs of short lived sighs
and colored wakes of blue and white.

Polar lights court the single star’s ambition toward the north,
so pulses bright in trepidation,
pulls the wind’s anticipation
in dancing snowflakes spiral worth.

This simple star, this hallowed night, atop the snow caked mountain,
holds the blossomed heaven’s smile,
blessed in frozen winter’s wile
that burns the heavens white in fountains.

Lo, the east grows rosy red, burgeoning morning’s call.
This single star drifts to the west
holding midnight winter’s best
and to the mountain appears to fall.

Old Sol in true love reaches forth with kindness toward this one
that reaches back in glimmers
through timeless snow flake shimmers
and blows a winter’s kiss to sun.

One last stretch across the heavens pulls a brilliant arc of light
that lends the evening’s dance to day,
mends the mountain’s cry to play
and sparkles deep for morning’s light.

Through subtle warmth in rising and all that morning keeps,
it’s sadness in this golden charting
that points to two true loves in parting
above the snow blown mountain steeps.

This Life Is Proof

Where does the dream of mankind fly,
midst doors of giants and windowed sky?
How deep the love and longing keep
his soulful patience reaching high?
Where does the loudest lightening strike
that draws the heart of man to wake?
And what in fragrant forests keep
his love of nature for his own sake?

‘Tis here in mountains current sweep,
where blood runs thick from heart of God,
where rock and tree and sky compete
to win His smile and therein trod
the open eyes of man in wonder,
upon the depth of love so true,
that kiss in lightening and shout with thunder,
“This life is proof, no more need do!”

Alpine Kiss

Across this windswept grand horizon,
nature’s form in lover’s bliss,
mountains stand ‘neath sun in rising,
entreated by this dawn’s sweet kiss.

Rapture lain around my feet,
great blankets green of fir and pine
awaken to this morning’s passion,
call for love of life, and thine!

How shallow could a man’s life be
if not entrusted to nature’s bed
where sensuality heaves in motions
of grandeur swept and sweetness led.

Here in the heart of love’s emotion,
breathing calm this morning breeze,
kindly granted sun’s sweet kiss,
enrobed in green and mountain, pleased…

Deep Green

Drawn between the mountain’s shoulders,
meadow green at alpine edge,
where just a call below does beckon
the open sea in echoed pledge
to kiss the mountain’s kneeling hands,
subdue the length of running streams,
vow love and honor for all time’s sake
and tender sure dear mountain’s dreams.

At meadow’s edge midst first row fir
I’ve built a safe and humble stead
with sage and prairie grass my courtyard,
alpine boughs and earth my bed.
Beneath the shoulder of mother’s mountain,
yet bathed in father’s sun I make
a solace for my soul’s protection,
where harbor truths, and dreams do wake…

Deep green, this pleasure seeks no balance,
for needless when my nature’s true
against the granite ocean echoes,
pushed by whispered pines and you.

You who’ve blessed my life in living,
wherein my dreams do conscious cure
and lift the weight of day’s task meaning,
thus bless the values truth, ensure
my heart seeks life’s desire,
relinquish tragedy and time’s misgiving,
protect and keep this blessed love
and in such bathe in your kind giving!
My love, forevermore…

Mountain Valley

Stretched across this mountain valley
and verdant sweeping slopes,
my soul relaxed in ether
bathes in nature’s loves and hopes.

Rich the forest floor in duff –
Loamy scent of fir and earth –
Harmonies on summer’s breeze –
Life whispered in the pine’s true worth –

Mountain meadow flowers bloom
in dreams of water colored hues.
A magpie perched as stoic guard
protects the “awe” ‘neath azure blue.

Through every tensiled fabric,
I sense this life, this current’s blood,
that into this I’m welcomed, drawn,
as soul and heart expand in flood.

Granite spired backdrop –
Sentient babbling brooks –
A pawing fawn yields a nod,
returns my loving looks –

Enraptured here, my spirit slain
by mountain’s giving life,
that I may see the thoughts of God,
and count this land my nature’s wife.

Mountain Top

Mountain top in summer’s blue
atop this fold that lends a view
to sights that roll eternal…
Solid green
twixt blossoms seen
that hold eternity vernal.

This is my heart amongst the folds
of granite pined and crystal cold
of streams that source from truth…
That here I stand
a simple man
and to my soul lend proof

that I am one within this,
that I am born of love,
that all my thoughts are kept here
and granted from above.

The Palisades – Napa Valley, California

On the eastern side of Napa Valley, is an odd area of volcanic rock. The hike through Robert Louis Stevenson State Park is quite beautiful, and a bit challenging, but well worth the effort. Many interesting sights along the way, including an area of magical rock mazes and intrigue.

Desert’s Truth

Spirit’s heart at horizon’s length,
‘neath azure skies that strike the sound
of echoed desert silence,
does rise in rhythm, call in strength
to speak no lies and bless the ground
with feet so drummed, no violence.

Expanse of land and eagle’s call,
draws canyon’s echo above, below,
so still the morning air –
plunge to valley’s depth in fall,
feather swept in roll to show
the fabric of all living there.

Yet great expanse, by nature’s hand,
grounds the very soul of me –
blends me insignificant,
yet carries tall the truth I see.
This balance here, all I’ve sought.

This fabric found in passion’s tones,
bleaching red and grey in sum,
culling canyon’s echoed heart
and where imaginations run,
so in holds this lesson taught –

“We stand amidst these finer things
of nature’s truth and simple love.
We, but moment’s beating heart
to draw it in and rise above.
We, in soulful duty and
in balance of this nature’s law.
We, by granted stewardship
must echo truth here gathered, all!
So live each moment’s truth
in balance and in honesty
of what this desert gives as proof
and what we know of ‘we’!”

Along This Path and Forest Floor

Cirque above Emmaline Lake – Colorado Autumn

Deep in forest’s isolation,
this path I walk, my own.
Scattered light through autumn’s trees
reflecting gold in daylight’s warm.
Here, midst introspection’s calling,
my dreams take shape, my truths come home.

Twixt wooded slumber’s deepened musk,
the path in sun, dry and driving thus,
this autumn’s wind unites
the surreal of silence with living light,
brings a soul to wish for woods,
in season’s darkening fold.
Yet as the cooling shadows surround,
silent necessity grasps a hold,
therein listens closely…

Through the aspen’s rustling leaves,
whitened noise in hushed tones heaves,
brings a stirring soul to sigh…
There, surprise in unsought treasure,
a mountain spring in rushes,
sings of perches high in glory,
where leaps and bounds in daylight’s brilliance,
repeats its passing journey’s story…

In subtle stirs midst pine and brush,
a fearless doe in speckled blush
picks and paws at forest floor,
waits, to kindly hear my story,
passing by, yet gently more
she gives in trust and welcome,
let my heart and spirit fly.
Her trust is kindness giving
all my soul has come here for…
moments dwelt, my reason why,
along this path and forest floor…

If

Here… with you!

If this were the last day of my life…
I’d spend it here, with you…

bathed in summer’s glory,
by river bank whose telling story
would speak of eon’s past
and more to come in eternal view…
if this were the last day of my life, my love,
I’d spend it here with you…

in whispered breeze, ‘neath summer’s trees
of cottonwood, aspen, yew…
midst calling thrush and black bird’s song,
cricket’s constant ratchet long…
if this were the last day of my life,
I’d spend it here with you, my wife…

‘neath summer sun and trembling hushes,
into your eyes I’d fall…
hold this bliss in true love’s kiss,
through waves of love in sudden rushes,
and to my God I’d call…
“This is my wife, my love, my life –
for her my heart beats true!”
If this were the last day of my life,
my love, I’d spend every moment,
every waking sound, with you…
my wife, my love, – with you!
