Along this wooded path I’ve seen
a gift from God, in forest, serene
in balance within the moment
regardless of the season…
Through every day’s recursive stride
I walk to find where nature hides
the budding secret of life’s true reason,
and so in, hear the thoughts of God…

Chickadees by pond’s edge veldt,
in balance, and in flurry
fast, to drying stalks of grass,
retrieve the seasons seed and hurry
home, or on to next good purpose…
Geese, in autumn’s heart, collecting
souls in congregation,
bless the cool gray waters still,
relieve the pensive hesitation,
paint silent lines upon its surface…

Quiet tho’, the patterns here
seem mutely odd to passerby,
‘tis where life’s balance shows its will,
resolves the question to ask God why…
for the answers all about us…
in reeds now turning loose from womb,
in autumn’s quiet encroaching tomb,
in silent woods birds call lament,
life’s truth in answer around us sent…
no need for why, just trust…

Silence

In between the spaces
of moment’s task and purpose rent,
there my silence carries forth
intentions of my life thus spent.

There the wave recalled in part,
of sitting in a silent heart,
there in quiet attention find
the peace of purpose I know is mine.

So I strive to honor such
in meditation’s moment paused –
learn to give in every breath,
judge not and learn from nature’s laws
which show the truth in present’s mending,
no malice known, yet open, rending
ebb and flow in all that matters,
adjunct to soul and cosmic batter,
of which all life’s instilled.
Yet we, as men, still have free will

To soul’s sweet purpose, thus we strive –
balance such against the living
days in which our bodies wrought,
a spirit’s experience, yet sometimes caught,
and there’s our lesson’s giving.

That truth and love is what we lend,
when to our special purpose tend
our thoughts and kindness in honest tow,
therein reveal our spirit, show
the life we’re meant to live,
when to our silence trust we give…

Amongst the ether, there show our heart,
one in all, all in part…

England 1941 (Veteran’s Day Tribute)

England 1941

By pond’s still quiet,
November found
‘neath blackened trees
and leaves of brown,
that chime through winds,
season’s decay
rustle the drying grasses to say
or whisper their seed tossed song.
Where prayer is heard
in sweetest words,
bless offspring’s journey,
brave, yet long…

Reeds, by pond’s edge, do blush
with naked stalks and seeds that flush
this breeze with passers by.
Where clouds of grey and white on blue
hang low, and brooding up the view
soften this season’s sigh…

Now above my head a thunder rises,
behind a cloud on blue, surprises
peace with a warring sound.
Two birds of war, in roaring chase,
bend wing on wing around the face
of the grey insipidous cloud.
There turn and twist by engine’s roar,
dive and stretch to fight for one more
breath, or one more shroud…

These two alone in November’s sky
bring anxious thoughts that recall why
I’m sitting here
amidst this November’s season.
Where God’s inspired this nature’s reason,
so disturbed by mankind’s cry
to peace and conquest, home and faith,
for loved one’s whose lives we face
this terror from the sky.
Where wisps of clouds become our means
to face the birds of war in seams
where their anger waits and hides.

These two on wooded edge, now slowly
chase, evade, and roar past lowly
dancing o’er the distant shore.
Yellow blasts and glints of sun
as black unfurls and spirals run
above to yonder clouds.
Where now the victor soars to heights
while in defeat and smoke the fight
twists slowly at the horizon,
and ends in forest’s shroud.

Tomorrow, I may be so blessed,
to rise to clouds of height and best
the anger of this season.
My bird and I pray for reason
to see us through.
There seek another autumn’s day,
and in it offer thanks and pray
my soul comes back to you.

Desert’s Truth

Spirit’s heart at horizon’s length,
‘neath azure skies that strike the sound
of echoed desert silence,
does rise in rhythm, call in strength
to speak no lies and bless the ground
with feet so drummed, no violence.

Expanse of land and eagle’s call,
draws canyon’s echo above, below,
so still the morning air –
plunge to valley’s depth in fall,
feather swept in roll to show
the fabric of all living there.

Yet great expanse, by nature’s hand,
grounds the very soul of me –
blends me insignificant,
yet carries tall the truth I see.
This balance here, all I’ve sought.

This fabric found in passion’s tones,
bleaching red and grey in sum,
culling canyon’s echoed heart
and where imaginations run,
so in holds this lesson taught –

“We stand amidst these finer things
of nature’s truth and simple love.
We, but moment’s beating heart
to draw it in and rise above.
We, in soulful duty and
in balance of this nature’s law.
We, by granted stewardship
must echo truth here gathered, all!
So live each moment’s truth
in balance and in honesty
of what this desert gives as proof
and what we know of ‘we’!”

Heaven’s Door

Heaven’s Door

At fleeting moment’s grasp,
the heavens beckoned, opened hasp
and brought me clear unto this day –

Rose and amber shadowed,
pulling on my heart beat’s hollowed
echo through the blue and grey –

And there I stood in awe –
Caught twixt heaven and earth I saw
the very face of God!
As whispered soft, his thoughts struck true
this flawed and tiny man, I knew
I’d stumbled into Heaven!

As quickly as I realized thought
and questions formed with answers sought
a grin and sparkled eye beheld me –
Set my mind back to my place,
relieved the worry on my face
and laughed, “this could be Heaven that you see…”

With fleeting moment’s heart beat gone,
I found myself upon the lawn
beneath a summer’s thunderstorm –
Where twixt the booms and flashing light,
rose doorway’d clouds held fast my sight,
and the rain began to pour…

“There stumbled I on Heaven’s door?”

Grey Wolf (in honor of “Journey”)

Homer – kin to Journey

Contrast frozen to the whitened meadow,
below timber line his grey coat seen,
eyes reflecting a sparkled hollow,
holding the distance past life had been.

Cold contrast, the frozen winds engulf him,
through squinted eye, coerced towards woods
where tall his lonely path before him,
enrobes his heart in sadness’ mood.

The past a sacred cry for love,
his future, dark woods’ quiet hope,
where chance regains the love of family,
yet aches for young whose loss he copes…

Long last look across the meadow,
from forest’s edge and winter’s white,
casts a silent soulful prayer
for those behind, for those whose plight
will be kept in God’s own guarding.

Then turn and squint against the wind,
toward forest’s deep, his path begins,
and carries hope and faith upon,
that his life’s loves, he’ll know again.

The woods in deepened silence,
protected from the winter’s howl,
allows his heart to open,
beneath the reverent conifer boughs.

Here his heart finds earnest keeping
within the arms of green and grey.
Wounds in healing reflect the years,
where now forgiveness finds its way

to keep the scar as souvenir,
yet release the pain once bound,
and so, in time, his soul in heaping
of such blessing, allow his truth resound.

Through the woods is echoed,
an added tone in nature’s chorus,
sings of one whose life is found,
and now stands true before us.

Between the grey and green are seen
the eyes of one whose heart is knowing,
that inward must all truths be found
before knowledge gained, is what is showing.

And as this balance and trust be known,
extraordinary gifts from God are sent,
there open hearts in deep woods’ clearing,
and days in future sun be spent.

For amongst the deepened woods’ protection
are meadows sacred and bathed in sun,
where all is found revered and silent,
a kiss from God that sings and runs

amidst the truth of knowing,
that heaven on earth is heaven indeed.
That here, protected in the open,
is where His smile adds form to seed,

that is blessed in greater motion,
is constant with this knowledged purpose,
for lives begin and end here,
entreating truth below the surface…

In this clearing another grey
and knowing heart is seen,
with eyes of love, trust and caring,
her focus across the meadow, keen

to know his heart, to feel his truth,
as if to speak a silent proof,
“I am here for you…”

In this moment of burgeoning kinship,
recalled the path that has led him here,
in faith and knowing, there are no questions,
just echoes’ comfort he now holds dear.

Thus know his path to alpine meadow
has been his path all along,
and as he stands within her shadow,
God’s light and love are echoed strong.

The rest is what we’ve come to know,
when in the forest wolf pairs be seen.
Our respect is instant, for what they show
is truth in love, and life’s sweet scheme,

that resounds the thoughts of God as knowledge,
that place trust in paths our lives are on.
That we too, may echo, as wolves,
the truth of knowing our sacred song…

The One Less Traveled By

Here, within this yellow wood,
my road, the one less traveled by,
has seen a life where love has stood
in shadowed forest and by my side,
has sparkled deep, through shade of tree
and cast a smile in front of me.

At times the path was lonely,
where darkness seemed to lend
a fear to the ‘morrow’s waking,
yet, at times it came as friend,
whose shadow cooled, bestowed a trust,
where comfort’s found in deep wood’s musk.

Tho’ this journey’s tried my spirit,
the deepest love of life I’ve gained,
as every trial’s eventual end
rewards with cooling summer’s rain,
thereby my very senses thrilled,
these histories’ pages, sweetly filled.

Today, this road has risen high
to alpine glen and meadow,
where seasons rich and heaven’s nigh
bring peace of knowing, mellow
thoughts, for fears once lessons taught,
thus grant a strength of spirit true,
life’s diploma, herein wrought.

Tomorrow, then, in alpine glen,
my love will so abound,
to kiss, in bliss, my muse’s lips,
in love we both have found,
hand in hand, our past departing,
for today, our journey’s only starting.

Along This Path and Forest Floor

Cirque above Emmaline Lake – Colorado Autumn

Deep in forest’s isolation,
this path I walk, my own.
Scattered light through autumn’s trees
reflecting gold in daylight’s warm.
Here, midst introspection’s calling,
my dreams take shape, my truths come home.

Twixt wooded slumber’s deepened musk,
the path in sun, dry and driving thus,
this autumn’s wind unites
the surreal of silence with living light,
brings a soul to wish for woods,
in season’s darkening fold.
Yet as the cooling shadows surround,
silent necessity grasps a hold,
therein listens closely…

Through the aspen’s rustling leaves,
whitened noise in hushed tones heaves,
brings a stirring soul to sigh…
There, surprise in unsought treasure,
a mountain spring in rushes,
sings of perches high in glory,
where leaps and bounds in daylight’s brilliance,
repeats its passing journey’s story…

In subtle stirs midst pine and brush,
a fearless doe in speckled blush
picks and paws at forest floor,
waits, to kindly hear my story,
passing by, yet gently more
she gives in trust and welcome,
let my heart and spirit fly.
Her trust is kindness giving
all my soul has come here for…
moments dwelt, my reason why,
along this path and forest floor…
